Who we are
From the first conversation to the last walk-through, one team.
Mary Wood founded Southern Belle Construction in 2021 with a Nashville native’s idea of how a contractor should behave: show up when you say you will, tell people what is happening, and build every house as if you were going to live in it. Five years and more than a hundred five-star reviews later, that is still the whole philosophy.
“He kept us updated throughout the process and was always quick to answer questions.”

“I started Southern Belle Construction with a simple belief: homeowners deserve a contractor they can trust. Too often, people are left wondering what’s happening with their project or struggling to get answers when they need them most.
That’s why our team focuses on honest communication, quality workmanship, and treating every home as if it were our own. We’re honored every time a homeowner trusts us with their vision, and we look forward to helping bring yours to life.”

Why homeowners choose us
The things that make a build feel easy
Woman-owned, Nashville-born
Mary Wood founded the company in 2021 and still leads it. The people who quote your project are the people who build it.
Licensed, insured, accredited
Tennessee contractor’s license #76533, BBB Accredited with an A+ rating, and HomeAdvisor screened and approved.
113 five-star Google reviews
A perfect 5.0 across 113 reviews — for communication and clean job sites as much as for the finished work.
One team, start to finish
Design, permits, trades, inspections and the punch list are ours to manage. You get one project manager and one number to call.
Estimates you can read
Written, itemized and explained in person. Changes are priced before they happen, never discovered on the invoice.
Built for Tennessee weather
Porches, decks and outdoor kitchens engineered for humid summers, freeze-thaw winters and the storms in between.
How it works
Six steps, no surprises
The same process for a screened porch and a five-thousand-square-foot custom home. It is how the schedule holds and the estimate stays true.
A conversation
Call, or send the form. Collin or Mary will ask what you want the house to do, what is bothering you about it now, and what timing and budget look like.
A site visit
We walk the property, measure, photograph and look at what is behind the walls where we can. No pressure and no sales script — just the questions a builder has to ask.
Design and a written estimate
Drawings where the project needs them, selections you can hold in your hand, and a written estimate broken into the pieces that drive it. You will know what you are paying for.
Permits and scheduling
We pull the permits, order the long-lead materials and put the job on a calendar you can see. Doug becomes your single point of contact from here on.
The build
Crews show up when we say they will, the site is cleaned each evening, and you get updates without asking. Surprises behind the drywall are handled in the open, with options and prices.
The walk-through
We go through the finished work together with a punch list, fix what needs fixing and hand over the warranty paperwork. Then we ask you to tell Google how it went.
“The workers were very efficient and thorough. We plan to use Southern Belle Construction again.”

We couldn’t be happier with the work Southern Belle Construction did on our screened-in deck. From start to finish, their team was professional, communicative, and detail-oriented. The fabrication work is top-notch — the structure feels sturdy, seamless, and perfectly integrated into the rest of our home. They kept the site clean, finished the project on time, and delivered a beautiful, functional space that we know we’ll enjoy for years to come.

In mid-October, my house was only one-level with a very large, unfinished attic. As of the first week of January, I have a beautiful and solid second floor, complete with wood flooring and stairs, guest bathroom, guest bedroom, bonus room, sound system, built-ins, and lots of extra storage space. And it’s integrated into a consistent look with the rest of the house, like it’s always been there. Southern Belle is on the ball, with tons of ideas, quality workmanship, and constant communication. I highly recommend them.

Doug and Collin and their team did an excellent job removing and rebuilding our front porch. They had to be innovative when they found unseen problems. The estimate was fair and they worked around weather conditions to finish on time. We would highly recommend them!

How much does it cost to build a custom home in Middle Tennessee?
Most custom homes in the Nashville area cost roughly $200 to $350 per square foot to build, before land, with high-end finishes and difficult sites running higher. Site work, roof complexity and the kitchen and bath finish level move the number most. Southern Belle Construction prices every home line by line in a free written estimate.
How much does a kitchen remodel cost in Nashville?
A mid-range kitchen remodel in Middle Tennessee most often lands between $45,000 and $85,000; moving walls or plumbing, adding an island with services, or choosing custom cabinetry and natural stone pushes it to $90,000 to $150,000 and up. Cabinets and counters are usually half the budget.
Does Southern Belle Construction offer free estimates?
Yes. Every project starts with a free consultation, a site visit and a written, itemized estimate with no obligation. Call (615) 815-7698 or send the form and we will reply within one business day.
Is Southern Belle Construction licensed and insured?
Yes. Southern Belle Construction, LLC holds Tennessee contractor’s license #76533 for residential and commercial work, carries general liability and workers’ compensation insurance, is a BBB Accredited Business with an A+ rating, and is HomeAdvisor screened and approved.

How long does a remodel take?
A bathroom takes three to five weeks, a kitchen six to ten, a screened porch three to six, an addition two to six months and a custom home eight to fourteen months of construction. Design, selections and permits add a few weeks to a few months before that, and we give you a written schedule before work starts.
Do you handle permits and inspections?
Yes. We prepare the drawings, pull the building, electrical, plumbing and mechanical permits in our name, schedule every inspection and hand you the closed-out paperwork at the end. Unpermitted work is not something we do.

Every project runs on a written contract with a deposit and progress payments tied to milestones you can see. Clients who finance typically use a HELOC, a renovation loan or a construction loan through their bank, and we supply the documentation lenders ask for.
Is Southern Belle Construction woman-owned?
Yes. Southern Belle Construction was founded in January 2021 by Mary Wood, a native Nashvillian, and is owned by Mary and William Wood. It is one of the few woman-owned general contractors building custom homes in Middle Tennessee.
